Creating Contact Attributes

Create contact attributes to add custom fields to contact layouts used in Skylight Desktop. There are several default attributes in your tenant such as name, phone number, and address. With custom attributes, you can save additional relevant information about your contacts.

  1. Go to Configuration > Contact Attributes.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Enter a Name for the attribute.

    This name is used as a parameter in API calls. As a best practice, don't enter any spaces in the name. For example, enter firstname instead of First Name. After the attribute is saved, the name can't be changed.

  4. Select a Type of field.

    The type of value that agents can enter for this attribute in the contact record:

    • Text: A string of text
    • Phone Number: A phone number, which must be entered in E.164 format
    • Email: An email address
    • Boolean: A checkbox for agents to select (true) or clear (false)
    • Link: A URL, which becomes a hyperlink when the contact is saved.
    • Number: A number. Letters aren't permitted. Agents can also click up or down to increase or decrease the number in Skylight Desktop.

    After the attribute is saved, the type can't be changed.

  5. Optionally, enter a Default value for this field.

    If agents don't enter a value for this attribute, the default value is used.

  6. Optionally, click to enable the attribute as Mandatory.

    When the toggle is green, the attribute is marked as mandatory. These attributes must be included in any contact layout that you create. Agents must also enter a value for this field when creating a new contact record.

  7. Click + next to Localization to add labels for each of the relevant languages for your tenant.
    • Label: Enter the translation for the attribute.
    • Language: Select the corresponding language.

    After agents select a language when logging in to Skylight Desktop, the attributes on contact records are shown according to the text specified for each of the languages here.

    For example, if the label of your attribute is "Last Name" for English - United States and "Nom de famille" for French - Canada ,

    • Agents who log in and select English - United States see "Last Name" on the contact record.
    • Agents who select French - Canada as their language at log in see "Nom de famille".

  8. Click Submit.

These attributes can now be added to your custom contact layout.
